All ways to experience Bukit Lawang

Wild Bukit Lawang offers more than orangutans. Our 21 experiences, planned personally by our local team, range from a 3-hour jungle introduction to a 7-day deep-forest expedition. Beyond the orangutan treks, the lineup includes river tubing on the Bohorok, cultural exchanges with our English class, traditional Indonesian cooking lessons in a local home, Tangkahan elephant day-trips, the rare-bloom Rafflesia hunt, and overnight jungle camping.

The 8 orangutan trek lengths (3 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 5 days, 6 days, 7 days) follow the same ethical model: small groups led by HPI-certified and KLHK-registered guides, with the full Gunung Leuser national park permit included in the price. Multi-day variants go deeper into the park, where wild orangutans, gibbons and hornbills are more common than at the trekking edge that day-trippers reach.

A new kind of tour

Meet the students who are changing their own future

Alongside his travel work, Jeri teaches English to about 10-20 local children, ages 8 to 16. They meet in the afternoons in a small space in Bukit Lawang, a few times a week, around 4 to 6 PM. Most of the kids were shy at first. Some couldn't speak a single word in English without blushing. Now? They're confident. They ask questions, they tell stories, they laugh in English. Bukit Lawang runs on tourism, and speaking English opens doors for these kids that they wouldn't have otherwise. That's the dream behind the class: to give them the tools to build their own futures in their own home.

Through Wild Bukit Lawang, travellers can now join one of the English lessons for 1-2 hours. You'll chat with the kids, play games, share stories about your country, and help them practice. It's not a performance, it's a real class. Maximum 5 travellers per session to keep it personal. The kids love it, the travellers leave moved, and everyone wins.
