The best teacher in life is the experience we have been through.

Born and raised in Bukit Lawang, Wandi Syahputra has more than 15 years of experience as a jungle guide. Growing up surrounded by nature made him deeply connected to the rainforest and wildlife from a very young age. Whether trekking deep through the jungle, fishing in the river, or cooking traditional meals over a campfire, Wandi truly feels at home in nature. For him, guiding is not just a job, it is a way to share the beauty, culture, and spirit of Bukit Lawang with people from around the world.

We created Wild Bukit Lawang from our heart, with one simple dream: to help more people discover how beautiful our home really is. Bukit Lawang is not only a small village near the jungle, it is a place full of life, culture, kindness, and unforgettable stories.

Growing up here, we learned to live close to nature. The sound of the river, the jungle in the morning, the smiles from local people, and the wildlife around us are all part of everyday life. Through this website, we want to share that feeling with the world.

We also want people to see the incredible beauty of Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the last wild rainforests in the world, home to orangutans, gibbons, hornbills, and many other rare animals and plants. The jungle is not just a tourist destination for us. It is our home, our history, and something we deeply want to protect for future generations.

Wild Bukit Lawang is also about people. We believe tourism should help local communities grow. By working together with local guides, drivers, guesthouses, and small local businesses, we hope to create more opportunities and support families in our village. Every trip booked with us helps local people continue doing what they love while protecting nature at the same time.

More than just tours, we want every visitor to feel like family here. To share stories, laugh together, learn about different cultures, and experience the real spirit of Bukit Lawang. Thank you for being part of our journey. We can't wait to welcome you to our little paradise.

How we work

Ethical trekking, our only standard

Ethical trekking is the only way we work. The forest matters more than the perfect photo, and the people who live next to it matter more than maximising trips. We've written five concrete rules down on a separate page, you can hold us to each of them.

Come visit. Come trek. Come see what we see every day.
